Gary Rowberry sails thru hip replacement

Gary Rowbverry had his hip replacement surgery on Monday (Jan. 8) in Houston as scheduled. By Tuesday afternoon he was back at his apartment.  Gary said as soon as he woke up after surgery he was no longer hurting. He says he feels great and hopes to be back to work in a couple of weeks.  Typical recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks but he’s hoping the doctor will clear him to return to work since, as we know, he really doesn’t do anything.

Row says he was really crabby, which he attributes to his bad hip, and also always tired which he attributes to his bad heart.  Now that he’s taken care of those two issues he feels like a new man.  He said, “the Crabby Row is gone!”  And he has a lot more energy than he did have.  Anyone wanting to call him and test his crabbyless attitude, you can reach him at 314-715-5429.

Gary Rowberry Undergoes Open Heart Surgery

Update: (11/22): Talked with Gary today and he’s getting ready to check out of the hospital and go back to his apartment.  He said he’s feeling really good with minimal pain and everything is looking good. He’s going to start cardiac rehab to build himself up. He can’t drive for 6 weeks.   Once he gets his heart built back up he’ll undergo the hip replacement and said he’ll be as mean and ugly as ever and good for another 30 years.  He wants to thank everyone for their well wishes, thoughts and prayers.  He’s hoping to be able to come back to St. Louis around Christmas but if not, by February for sure.

Rick Walton Killed in Crash

Glutton Brother Rick Walton was killed in a car crash around 5 pm Sunday afternoon October 8, 2017.  Details are sketchy but apparently, he was on his way home from a benefit for a friend in the St. Charles area when he lost control of his truck on I-70 near Dave & Busters and went off the road and hit a tree. Rick was not thrown from the vehicle as first reported.  He had his seatbelt on.

Alk hospitalized with double pneumonia

Al Karniski was hospitalized over the weekend with double pneumonia and God knows what else.  He’s a Mercy Hospital (formerly known as St. John’s Mercy) on Ballas near 40 and 270.  Al has been feeling like crap for about 10 days. That crap turned into double pneumonia.

He’ll probably be in the hospital for a few days.

Elenore ‘Momma’ McGuire Dead at 91

We’re sad to report that ‘Momma’ McGurie passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017, after a brief illness.

Mom McGuire was the Mother of founding members Dan and Don McGuire.  As the name “Momma” McGuire indicates, she was, in many ways, a second Mother to us all.   She was made an Honorary Member of the Gluttons in 1971.

A simple private funeral will be held on Thursday, June 15, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Gluttons Club from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday.

Momma McGuire Under Hospice Care

Got the sad news today that Elenore ‘Momma’ McGurie is going under hospice care.  She has undergone surgery on her kidneys a couple of times recently but it apparently isn’t working. She has other non-treatable problems and the outlook isn’t good.

Momma McGuire, 91, has been an honorary member of the Gluttons since 1971.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire McGuire family.

Rabbi Trashed!

Rabbi send beerJim “Rabbi” Murphy was injured in a trash accident while cleaning up spilled trash.  In his words:

I was cleaning up the spilled trash and I was walking down the hill to pick up the last of it and my left foot slipped out from under me and my right knee folded up and tore my patella tendon. Had surgery yesterday to have it fixed. Owie.

We’re wishing Rabbi a speedy pain-free recovery.

‘Fireball’ Pfeffer Sets Head Ablaze

Gerard Send Beer2

No, it wasn’t a cigar explosion.  Gerard ‘Fireball’ Pfeffer spent part of New Year’s Eve at the hospital after an incident at his place on Lewis & Clark.  Apparently his bonfire making skills leave something to be desired. Where’s Ranger Rick when you need him?

Fireball wasn’t satisfied with his arsonistic skills in making a bonfire. The fire was petering out and the always helpful Fireball had the brilliant idea to add an accelerant to the bonfire to coax it along.  Accelerant of choice: gasoline.  Fireball’s reflexes weren’t as good as they were when he was a younger man, so guess what happened?

POOF!  While it was way too late to burn his hair off it did scorch his head a bit.  He drove himself to a hospital near his home in St. Peters where he was treated for his injuries.  He is expected to make a full recovery.

Stay tuned for more Adventures of Fireball Pfeffer!
